Former NHL captain believes this GM will leave his team in 2018

Former Montreal Canadiens captain and head coach Guy Carbonneau, who became an analyst for Quebec sports network RDS, made a shocking declaration on Thursday night as the Habs were facing the Tampa Bay Lightning.

He said he believes general manager Marc Bergevin will leave the team in 2018, without mentioning whether he would get fired or leave his position voluntarily. Here's what he said:

I love Marc. I love the guy, I love what he has done as a player, but we have to face the facts. I look at the Habs' current roster, and I don't think he made the team better over the last few months.
When the team traded for Shea Weber, the plan was to win now. Not in 10 years, but in 3, 4 or 5 seasons. We have guys like Carey Price and Max Pacioretty, we had Andrei Markov... We've been talking about that for years but we need a top centerman, and Bergevin wasn't able to get one."

On the other hand, Carbo's colleague, former Habs' sniper Vincent Damphousse, doesn't think Bergevin will lose his job. He said he thinks Alex Galchenyuk will be be the one to go because he'll get traded somewhere in 2018.

With a current record of 16-18-4, the Habs are still eight points out of a playoff spot. And this is just going to get tougher and tougher. The team will have to play extremely well over the next few weeks, otherwise Bergevin's time in Montreal might come to an end...
