Former NHL enforcer Georges Laraque to step into the ring against Mike Tyson!

This is crazy.

I have to admit this is one of the craziest stories I've covered and the craziest part of this is that it might actually happen.

This past Friday, former National Hockey League enforcer Georges Laraque made comments during a radio broadcast in Montreal that kicked up quite the storm. Laraque made statements during the radio segment that suggested he was lining up a fight with legendary boxer Mike Tyson and that things were progressing forward very well. Laraque left things on a bit of a cliff hanger but he was back on the radio on Monday and he seemed even more confident about the fact that the fight would be moving forward.

"Things are moving forward, things are moving forward very well, on Wednesday I will be able to provide more details," said Laraque on 91.9 Sports. "We are at about 75% of the way there."

Now I must admit I originally thought that Laraque was thinking of getting into the ring with Tyson in a professional boxing match, and frankly in that scenario I expected that Laraque would end up getting seriously hurt. Say what you will about how tough he is, you don't step into the ring with a guy who has spent his entire life training on how to hit people unless you've got a deathwish. I am happy to report however that this will not be the case if the fight moves forward, and instead it sounds like this will be something closer to a show match.

Laraque points out that Tyson is doing something of a "world tour" at the moment in an effort to promote his upcoming fight against another legendary boxer in Roy Jones Jr. During the stops on this tour Tyson is holding 3 round exhibition bouts to showcase the fact that he still has his skills and according to Laraque, Tyson is looking for "celebrity" types to compete in these exhibitions against him. Laraque says that Tyson prefers this to a trained boxer or even an amateur boxer, as it allows him to ensure that neither party will get injured during these exhibitions.

I gotta be honest even when you sugar coat it in the way that Laraque has done here, the idea of stepping inside the ring for 3 rounds against a wild animal like Mike Tyson still sounds crazy to me.
