A former National Hockey League great is turning the page on his hockey career.

According to a report from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, former NHL player and current coach Kirk Muller has made the decision to leave the St. Louis Blues bench where he was an assistant under Ken Hitchcock.

This is particularly interesting because many believed Muller was the heir apparent to Hitchcock as the Blues bench boss, and the recently announced signing of Hitchcock for one more year may have influenced this move. There have been no reports stating this outright, but there is good reason to speculate here as the timing of the two is very closely linked.

It's unclear if Muller plans to take on another NHL coaching job as this time, but many believe Muller is looking for another shot as a head coach in the NHL.
