Former NHL head coach severely critiques veteran center

Former NHL head coach Michel Bergeron, who's been behind the bench of the Quebec Nordiques and the New York Rangers, has had enough of Habs' veteran centerman Tomas Plekanec. According to him the 34-year-old forward should be waived. Nothing less.

"I don't even want him in the press box. I want him to be waived."

Isn't this a bit harsh? Indeed, Pleky wasn't able to record a single point over the last seven games, and only scored one goal in 11 games this year. But he's still been extremely valuable for the Habs on the penalty kill, and spent 17 minutes and 28 seconds on this ice tonight, against the New York Rangers.

The Czech is currently in the last season of a two-year, $12-million contract. That’s a big chunk of change, especially for a team like the Habs who regularly spend to the limit and are in a constant battle to find cap relief.

In 78 games last season, he scored 10 goals and 28 points. A steep decline from him production of 14 goals and 54 points in 2015-16.
