Former NHL referee destroys Auston Matthews after Game 5.

A former National Hockey League referee has obliterated the star of the Toronto Maple Leafs following his performance in the Stanley Cup pkayoffs.

There will no doubt be plenty of criticism forthcoming for the Toronto Maple Leafs after a disappointing 5 game second round playoff exit in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but it is unlikely that many were expecting that criticism to come from a former National Hockey League referee.

Following the conclusion of Game 5 on Friday night, former NHL official Tim Peel has taken to social media to offer his opinion on the current state of the Maple Leafs. To say that Peel was harsh in his judgements would be an understatement, especially when it comes to the subject of what is arguably the organization's top star.

On Saturday morning, Peel completely destroyed Leafs star forward Auston Matthews when he made the case that #34 would never be a winner when it comes to this time of the season, although perhaps he was talking about someone else given his reference to an "Austin" Matthews.

"Never going to win with Austin Matthews," Peel said bluntly on social media. "Doesn’t have the jam to play in the playoffs. Too soft."

Peel would even go a step further and, as many others have done since the Leafs collapsed in the second round, call for major changes to the current Maple Leafs roster.

"Time to blow up the Core 4?" asked Peel.

This won't be the last bit of criticism directed at the Leafs in the coming weeks, but it might be the only criticism that comes from a former NHL referee.
