A former National Hockey League forward has received a major ban from the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation.
39-year-old veteran center Michal Handzus was notified on Monday that he would be receiving a three-month ban for the very ugly hit he delivered to the head of Thomas Hričinu.
The hit was severe enough that a stretcher was required to carry Thomas Hričinu off the ice and he was immediately rushed to hospital following the incident. Handzus reportedly already had a game misconduct this season which played into the especially harsh punishment from the Slovak Ice Hockey Federation.
Here's a look at the hit.
