It is looking more and more likely that Alexander Semin has seen his final game in the NHL.

A comeback for the former sniper seems far away, as he has signed a one-year extension with Magnitogorsk Metallurg of the KHL, according to Sport-Express writer Igor Eronko.

The 32-year old still has many years left as a hockey player, but the chances of him ever returning to the NHL diminish by the year. Despite having had plenty of offensive success early on in his career, he was plagued by inconsistency over the last few seasons, culminating in him being unceremoniously put on waivers.

After scoring only six goals and 19 points in 57 games with Carolina in 2014-15, the one-time 40-goal scorer was bought out of his five-year, $35 million contract just two seasons into it. Montreal took a chance on him for 2015-16, but he only appeared in 15 games with the Canadiens before they put him on unconditional waivers on Dec. 9.

Semin had five goals and 14 points in 20 KHL regular season games followed by another seven markers and 15 points in 23 playoff contests.

Maybe Semin will find his game and find a way back to the NHL at some point, but it won't be anytime soon.
