This may sound like we are trying to describe a ridiculous movie. We are not.

Global News has just revealed that Harold Giffen Nyren has been charged after allegedly snatching a toddler from its family in Kelowna on Sunday afternoon.

Nyren, who played with the Kamlopps Blazers between 2008 and 2010 in the WHL, is facing charges of assault and resisting police after allegedly snatching a baby from a stroller and fleeing naked into Okanagan Lake.

“He just picked up the baby out of the stroller by the head and started running with the baby and everyone was screaming,” witness Terri Haymen told Global News.

According to police, witnesses at the scene said a man allegedly grabbed a baby that was being held by its mother. The suspect then tried to swim away in Okanagan Lake after a struggle over the child. The alleged incident took place on Sunday in Kelowna’s Kerry Park in front of dozens of bystanders. The good news is that the baby was not harmed during the incident.

"During his attempt to flee and his interaction with other onlookers and police, he began to disrobe," RCMP Cpl. Jesse O'Donaghey said Sunday.

The 30-year-old from Calgary remains in custody.

Nyren has played in the American Hockey League, Western Hockey League and Alberta Midget Hockey league in several Canadian provinces, according to EliteProspects. Last season, Nyren played seven games with Amiens in France.
