Franchise player could walk away from his team?
Keystone Press

Last year was filled with rumors that Steven Stamkos could walk away from the Tampa Bay Lightning to join the Toronto Maple Leafs and be a part of his hometown team.

Well, now the rumor treadmill is in full swing for New-York Islanders franchise player John Tavares! According to Daniel Friedman from Sports Illustrated, the talented forward could very well grow tired of playing for a losing team such as the Islanders and walk away when his contract expires.

Tavares saw his manager Garth Snow let go their 2nd and 3rd scorers last summer and replaced them with Andrew Ladd who's got 3 points in 15 games so far. After short playoff runs in the last 2 years, the Islanders might be out of a playoff spot.... for a while!

"Although Tavares expressed his desire to be an Islanders for the remaining of his career, i'm sure he wants to win a Stanley Cup" - Daniel Friedman
