Friedman: Leafs are damaging the career of one of their young players.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are facing some serious criticism and it's coming from one of the National Hockey League's most respected voices.

Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was a guest on Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Friday morning, and he was asked about how the Maple Leafs have handled defenseman Frankie Corrado as well as the rumors that Corrado himself has begun expressing his frustrations.

Friedman's response was damning, and he flat out stated that he felt the Leafs were actively hurting Corrado's career.

“I have to say, I think this is a real shame. His career is getting seriously damaged,” said Friedman as per Nichols on Hockey. “I don’t know if ‘duty’ is the right word, but I think they should put him on waivers. I really do. I understand asset management and all of that, and how the Vancouver Canucks were criticized for letting him get away for nothing. But it’s very clear he’s not one of Toronto’s best six defensemen. They don’t consider him that way."

It's hard not to feel for Corrado who was claimed by the Leafs after the Canucks waived him, he has after all only had the chance to appear in 7 games. For now there's been no indication that the Leafs intend to do right by the player and he will likely continue to be a healthy scratch for the foreseeable future.
