Gabriel Landeskog delivers a vicious crosscheck to the head

We're going to go out on a limb here and assume this hit is likely to lead to a suspension.

On Wednesday night Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog took some serious liberties with the health of his opponent, Anaheim Dcuks' defenseman Simon Despres. Landeskog delivered a stiff crosscheck to the head and neck area of Despres who went down when he first took the hit, but to his credit shook it off and returned to the bench.

The National Hockey League has been coming down hard on hits to the head, and although Despres was not injured on the play, the optics of this one may be bad enough to force the League to take some kind of action against Landeskog. It was a late hit, an illegal crosscheck, and it was delivered to the head.
