Colorado Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar didn’t have the best news for his team on Friday. Amongst all the update on the injury front, Bednar revealed how Darren Helm, who left Thursday’s game against the Chicago Blackhawks early, had sustained a similar injury to what he dealt with earlier this season.

The head coach also mentioned that Josh Manson (lower-body), Bowen Byram (lower-body), and Valeri Nichushkin (ankle) aren’t close to returns.

What however caught the most attention was his update on captain Gabriel Landeskog. Bednar revealed that the star forward is currently not in Denver while doing recovery work. For some, it may not sound like inherently bad news, but we have seen have the Avalanche has recently lacked leadership, losing seven of eight games since the Christmas break.

This could also mean that Landscape has still got a bit of a ways to go before returning to the lineup.

Before Friday night’s light schedule, Colorado sat in sixth place of the Central division with 43 points, 12 points away from the Winnipeg Jets who currently hold the last wild-card spot for the upcoming postseason.

Landeskog needs to focus on his recovery and get back in time to push his Avalanche in the playoff race, however, he also needs to guide his teammates at this difficult time.

We bet fans cannot wait to have him back!
