Rarely do NHL general managers publicly establish expectations on certain players.

That doesn’t happen to be the case for Nashville Predators’ David Poile, who shifted his attention away from the newly-acquired P.K. Subban. Instead, the GM reminded SiriusXM NHL that Ryan Johansen is their number-1 center and that he’s set for a career season:

“I think Ryan is going to have his best year ever … with all due respect, he had an off-year last year and this year his conditioning is terrific.”

Hardly an “off-year” by most standards, Johansen managed 8 goals and 34 points in the 42 games since the trade that brought him to Music City and sent defenseman Seth Jones to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Poile added that the Predators are Stanley Cup contenders next season.
