The Minnesota Wild have finally pulled the trigger on a move that many have been anticipating for quite some time now.

It is hard to say how much of this should fall at the feet of former Minnesota Wild general manager Paul Fenton and his disastrous tenure, and short-lived, tenure as the Wild's GM, but the start of the 2019 - 2020 National Hockey League regular season has been nothing short of catastrophic for the Wild. The organization is off to the worst start in the history of the franchise with 4 consecutive losses, and they have been ugly losses at that. The Wild have lost 3 of those 4 games by at least 3 goals and it has become clear that the team is in desperate need of some kind of spark moving forward.

On Sunday Minnesota Wild insider Mike Russo speculated that the Wild could be on the verge of a very interesting move, a move that would see the American Hockey League's leading scorer called up as the Wild seek to find that aforementioned spark. That player is of course 26 year old Gerald Mayhew of the Iowa Wild and by the sound of things it sounds like the undrafted forward may finally get his chance to play at the National Hockey League level for the very first time in his career.

Mayhew was coming off an incredible season with the Wild's AHL affiliate team, he broke an Iowa Wild single season record last season finding the back of the net an impressive 27 times and has been off to a hot start again this season. Although Mayhew has only appeared in 4 games thus far this season he has 3 goals and 3 assists on the season already for a total of 6 points and also boasts a plus minus rating of +5 thus far. As a result of his stellar play there have been questions regarding when the Wild would finally pull the trigger on a call up for Mayhew and according to Russo it has now finally happened.

Mayhew is now set to join the Wild as they embark on a 3 game road trip, but it remains unclear when exactly he is expected to get his first NHL start. This also means that the Wild will have to trim down their lineup and according to Russo it sounds like the most likely candidates to get scratched are either Jordan Greenway or Kevin Fiala

This is likely to be a very popular move among Wild fans.
