It’s fitting that Wayne Simmonds’ final game as a Philadelphia Flyer played out on the big stage. Simmonds was instrumental in the Flyers’ 4-3 overtime win over the Pittsburgh Penguins at the 2019 Stadium Series game at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly. Less than 48 hours later Simmonds, who is a pending unrestricted free agent, was shipped out of town to the Nashville Predators in exchange for Ryan Hartman and a fourth round pick.

But, while the Simmonds Era may be over in Philly… it’s not so easy to say ‘goodbye’ for Flyers fans and even less so for the Flyers players themselves. Check out this clip of captain Claude Giroux celebrating Saturday’s win with Simmonds and telling him that he loves him:

Giroux and Flyers fans can take solace in the fact that the 30 year Simmonds is open to a return to Philly in free agency, according to Flyers insider Sam Carchidi.
