It's rare to have a general manager be so open about the possibility of trading a player, but then again nothing about general manager John Chayka is typical.

In a recent conversation with Sarah McLellan of AZ Cental Sports the Arizona Coyotes general manager admitted that he was open to the possibility of trading veteran forward Martin Hanzal. Chayka was sure to say that keeping Hanzal was still an option for the Coyotes but that added that a "transaction could be made."

The problem may be the market value of Hanzal at this time, while he has produced offensively this season with 8 goals and 6 assists in 32 games with the Coyotes, those totals would indicate a significant decrease in his production this year. To make matters worse Hanzal is currently a team worst -16 and his defensive liabilities are unlikely to be attractive to contending teams looking to add a scoring punch.

It's perhaps for this reason that Chayka also stated that the offers have come his way thus far have not been to his satisfaction.

"To date, I wouldn't say I've received a serious offer."

Despite that it seems very likely that Hanzal will be dealt this season, even if it is only just prior to the trade deadline.
