It seems that the sand in the hourglass has run out for goaltender Mike Condon in Ottawa.

According to a news report from Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun it now appears that Mike Condon will be moved from the Senators roster this summer, one way or another. Garrioch reports that the Senators will look to trade Condon this summer due to a log jam they have in net following the signing of goaltender Anders Nilsson to a 2 year contract extension. However even barring a trade Garrioch believes that Condon is done in Ottawa and would be bought out if a trade failed to materialize.

From the Ottawa Sun:

According to Capfriendly, the Senators can buy out Condon for $1.4 million that will be payable over the next two seasons. The organization will make every effort to try to find Condon a job because there may be a team that’s looking for a veteran for its AHL affiliate in case they lose someone during the season.

The reality is there’s no room for Condon in Ottawa. The club already has veteran Craig Anderson for one more season and Nilsson to take more playing time. The club doesn’t want Condon in Belleville because the organization wants to develop its younger goalies and there’s simply no room for him there.

The news comes off the heels of a major injury for Condon that cost him all but 4 games last season, the type of injury that leaves a lot of question marks surrounding his future moving forward. Condon also has the additional issue of his salary this upcoming season being a whopping $3 million, a huge price tag for a guy that is likely destined to play in the American Hockey League next season. His cap hit is only $2.4 million but even then it is hard to imagine there will be a large number of suitors for his services coming off that aforementioned hip injury.

That being said Condon's career best season was during the 2016 - 2017 NHL regular season, not that long ago all things considered, and over the course of 40 games that year he recorded a 2.50 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. It seems extremely unlikely that he recaptures that level of form at the NHL level given his struggles in recent years, but it is not impossible to envision a scenario in which a team picks him up for added depth in goal.
