A rare battle between two netminders.

Goaltenders Michael Mcniven and Logan Thompson throw down in the ECHL.

It is not every day that you see two goaltenders go toe to toe at a hockey game at any level so you'll have to excuse the fan in this video who may have gotten a little overly excited at the events unfolding in front of their very eyes.

Goaltenders Michael Mcniven of the Jacksonville Icemen and Logan Thompson of the South Carolina Stingrays for one reason or another simply decided to go at it, much to the delight of the few fans who appeared to be in attendance for this one. I have to give credit to both guys here as they genuinely appeared to be going after one another in this exchange, with both guys throwing plenty of blows as they struggle against one another. Unfortunately the reality of goaltending equipment is that the stuff is pretty bulky and you could tell it was really hampering both of these guys as they tried to load up their swings.

The limiting factors of their equipment aside the two goaltenders put on a pretty good show and even put a better showing than many players in the National Hockey League that I have seen drop the gloves this season. What makes this all the more impressive though is that both these guys have been playing relatively well and by no means needed to fight in this circumstance. McNiven started his ECHL season with the Adirondack Thunder where he appeared in 4 games. Over that stretch he picked up a 1.75 goals against average and an impressive .941 save percentage before joining the ranks of the Jagears. He has continued to show his strong form in Jacksonville with a .934 save percentage and a 2.16 goals against average over his 6 games with the Icemen this season. Thompson on the other hand has played all 10 of his games this season with the Stingrays and he boasts a 2.55 goals against average on the season and a .912 save percentage to go along with it.

Once again the person recording this or someone very close to them gets very excited, so all our headphone users out there be warned.
