Golden Knights' GM reveals new expansion draft strategy.

McPhee is actually super smart about it.

George McPhee is reportedly extremely active around the league in order to set his Golden Knights the best way possible for their inaugural season. We don't have to repeat again how vital the first year of an expansion could be, so having an experienced and smart guy on the helm can never be bad.

During the NHL combine, McPhee revealed a part of his strategy concerning the upcoming draft.

This is actually pretty smart on his part. Many teams are loaded with bad contract that were signed with disappointing players who never delivered the goods. The expansion draft is a unique opportunity to kept these players unprotected and send them Vegas' way. However, as a savvy negotiator, McPhee won't do that for free and expects good draft picks in exchange.

It would be a bit of a dilemma for GMs stuck with these kinds of players in the roster. Do you unload a bad contract to fix a cap space issue but mortgage your futur in exchange? It's a bit of a lose/lose situation for them, but sometimes you got to take your medicine and move forward.

The next few weeks will be pretty interesting!
