During game 7 of their AHL playoff matchup against the Providence Bruins, Hershey Bears goaltender Pheonix Copley suffered a particularly brutal injury in his attempt to stop the game-winning goal. Unfortunately for Copley, he wasn’t able to make the safe. Even more unfortunate, he tore his groin muscle RIGHT off the bone during his attempt.

Here’s the play in question:

Copley was re-acquired by the Capitals this season from the St Louis Blues after originally being traded there as part of a package to acquire TJ Oshie. Since then, the 25 year-old goaltender has been a big part of the Capitals future as evidenced by his .933 save percentage and 2.13 GAA in nine playoff games for the Bears this season. It’s expected he’ll make a full recovery for next season, however.
