At the outset of the NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs, the Anaheim Ducks revealed their plans for a truly unique postseason tradition. Adorning the giant pillars inside of the Ducks’ home arena, the Honda Center, are numbers 1-16, which represent the number of wins necessary to claim the Stanley Cup. With each victory, the Ducks invite a former player to cross off the number in orange paint.
When the Ducks unveiled Paul Kariya as their choice to cross off his legendary #9, there was little doubt who they’d tag for victory #8.
Teemu! Legendary Finnish superstar Teemu Selanne is not only the team’s all-time most beloved player, but also the team’s biggest fan in retirement. Ducks fans get a kick out of following the Finnish Flash on social media during Ducks games, as he’s not one to hide his emotion. Here’s to a long playoff run and MUCH more Teemu!
