GOTTA SEE IT: Edler lays the BOOM in IIHF opener

The puck officially dropped on the IIHF World Hockey Championships today with Sweden taking on Russia in the tournament opener and Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler wasted no time in making his presence felt.

The 6’3”, 215 lb Edler caught Russia’s Evgeny Dadonov was breaking out of the defensive zone when Edler stepped up with a crushing hit that absolutely annihilated Dadonov. Both players were sent flying in the collision, but Dadonov took the worst of it as his skate blades were facing the rafters when he finally came crashing down on the ice. Canucks fans, starving for any positive news regarding their team are likely salivating over the prospect of Edler patrolling the blue line for their team like this next season.
