NBA analyst Charles Barkley has made no bones about it, the NBA Playoffs are a bore and the NHL’s Stanley Cup Playoffs are where it’s at this postseason. The larger than life baller was in Nashville last night to take in game 4 between the Preds and the Pittsburgh Penguins, but couldn’t help from crashing an NHL press conference with legends Paul Coffey and Wayne Gretzky. Check it out here:

If you didn’t catch that, Barkley asked, “Wayne, I just always wondered who’s your favourite black athlete of all time?” Gretzky, always sharp and ready to pounce, quipped back “Grant Fuhr” without the slightest notion of hesitation. The response led to a round of laughter from everyone, before Barkley joined Coffey and Gretzky to discuss the playoffs for the assembled media.

While Barkley may not be the most educated hockey fan, there’s no doubt that he’s passionate about the game and a great spokesman for the NHL. He’s a media savvy analyst and knows the value that his words hold, especially in the United States. To have such an influential fan in the sport is a real opportunity for the NHL. Kudos, Prince Charles!
