The man, the meme, the legend: the Phil Kessel hotdog saga has now been immortalized in the flesh of Penguins fanatic Phil Hammerstein’s epic tattoo.

With Pittsburgh set to make another long run in the Playoffs after winning it all with Kessel last season, the time seemed right to pay tribute to the story that painted the Penguins star as an absolute villain upon his exit from Toronto.

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun led the Kessel hate train with his much-publicized article, Leafs were sick and tired of Phil Kessel. Simmons had long list of sins Kessel was guilty of in Toronto, the foremost of which was apparently his taste for some street-vendor hot dogs.

Simmons finished the article with the following line: “It doesn’t matter what they got for Kessel. What matters is he’s gone”.

Well, they got a Stanley Cup out of the deal. And from the looks of things, pretty good shot at another one.

Internet memesters have been sure to immortalize Kessel and Simmons comments online ever since.

Even Kessel’s own teammates poke fun at him for it, but nobody doubts what he’s brought to the team.

Kessel has been a huge part of the Penguins regular season and playoff success since being traded to Pittsburgh. And nobody appreciates his efforts, and results, more than Penguins fans.

Phil Hammerstein seems to have taken a personal shine to Kessel, and has graced his body with the star player’s likeness in a firm retort to Simmons, Kessel haters, and Toronto fans in particular.

Speaking of his new ink to Puck Daddy, Hammerstein said: “Big Phil just clicked with Pittsburghers – chubby dude with a comb-over and penchant for street weenies, dry humor, bad breath, tries hard and loves the game,” adding, “Plus I have buddies in southern Ontario to troll”.
