The Stanley Cup loss just got more painful for Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.

The giant star defenseman had been going on adrenaline and the desire to be a Stanley Cup champion for the second time of his career, before a fast-approaching retirement.

However on Friday, the extent of his jaw injury was revealed and most people will wonder how Chara was even able to lace up his skates…

Chara was almost ruled out of the remainder of the ultimate series against the St. Louis Blues after he suffered a broken jaw in the Bruins’ 4-2 loss in Game 4 last Monday.

However, the Bruins’ captain wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to make his team champions. He suited up despite the fact that he struggled to get his mouth open and talk to his teammates.

It was finally confirmed that Chara had indeed suffered a broken jaw, which needed to be fixed by several plates and wiring. He was mostly on a complete liquid diet for the remainder of the series, in which the Bruins ended up on the losing end.

His jaw was broken in two places, on the left and right sides on his face, the latter one was fractured into two parts. He is expected to be in recovery for five to six weeks.

It was also revealed that the veteran blue liner suffered a lower-body injury during the Eastern Conference finals against the Carolina Hurricanes and is awaiting MRI results from that ailment.

What a warrior.

He made history in Game 7 as he will play in his 14th Game 7 to pass Patrick Roy and Scott Stevens for most in NHL history. Chara's empty-net goal at 17:41 of the third period in Game 6 also made him the second-oldest player in NHL history to score in the Stanley Cup Final.

But we bet he would have suffered more pain and dismissed all of these aforementioned records if it meant he would have won the Stanley Cup…
