Last night, the Florida Panthers lost star forward Vincent Trocheck to a leg injury during the game against the Senators in Ottawa, and it sounds like the team will be without him for quite a while.

Late in the first period, Trocheck injured his right leg when he got tangled up with Ryan Dzingel deep in the Senators' zone and it resulted in a brutal mess. His leg got awkwardly twisted under him as he fell to the ice, and he immediately seemed to be in an immense amount of pain. From the live broadcast, you can hear Trocheck scream out in pain right after he sustained the injury. He ultimately had to be stretchered off the ice.

You can see the injury in the video down below; the replay angles make it very tough to watch.

Additional details have been provided on Tuesday on Trocheck's state and his gruesome injury. The star forward will require surgery on his injured leg and is expected to be out long term, according to NHL insider Darren Dreger of TSN.

We can only imagine the extent of this medical procedure...

This could indicate that Trocheck is at risk of losing the rest of the 2018-19 season. We might know more from the team, once the forward is out of surgery and on the road to recovery. Prior to getting hurt, the 25-year-old racked up 14 points in 18 games.

The Panthers are expected to use Jared McCann to slot into a top-six role with Trocheck sidelined.
