The Montreal Canadiens have officially put one of their players on the trading block.

Sportsnet Habs insider Eric Engels is now reporting that the Habs have sent out an official email to rival National Hockey League organizations notifying them that 26-year-old defenseman Brandon Davidson is now available via trade.

Davidson, a former Edmonton Oilers pick at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, has appeared in just 13 games for the Habs this season and it seems like general manager Marc Bergevin has seen enough to know that Davidson is not a fit for his squad.

Davidson is currently in the final year of a two-year contract that pays him an average annual value of $1,425,000, so it shouldn't be too hard a team looking for depth on defense to make a deal with.  Davidson's cap hit is relatively low and wouldn't but any pressure on the team's salary cap beyond the current season.

It's unclear what Bergevin is asking for in return for Davidson at this time.
