Habs make some tough choices.

The Montreal Canadiens made some of their final roster cuts on Sunday morning, and frankly I do not think that this has been an easy decision for any of the players of personnel involved.

First and foremost, on Sunday morning the Habs announced that they would be waiving both forward Charles Hudon and goaltender Charlie Lindgren, effectively indicating that neither man had made the main roster. Both men are experienced professionals with National Hockey League experience under their belts, and both men were a part of the surprising performance from the Habs last season, so no doubt it was hard for general manager Marc Bergevin and head coach Claude Julien to decide to waive both of these players.

One of the big reason that waiving Hudon and Lindgren would have been a difficult decision is the likelihood that they will not be picked up late into NHL training camps. Teams that are struggling to find a suitable backup goaltender would be well served to give a quality backup like Lindgren a look, and as for Hudon the speedy forward has shown he can score at the NHL level, although his performance did take a significant dip last season.

That's the bad news, but with the elimination of 2 players from the current roster that also indicates that 2 other young men have made their dreams come true. It now seems a forgone conclusion that both rookies Ryan Poehling and Nick Suzuki have now made the main roster and will feature prominently for the Montreal Canadiens this season. No doubt this will be a huge source of excitement for fans in the Montreal area, as the Canadiens have historically been rather week up the middle over the last several seasons. Both Suzuki and Poehling are natural centers and can play the position, which could open a ton of possibilities for general manager Marc Bergevin moving forward if he can shore up his lines up the middle.

Now I have to add that the news regarding Poehling and Suzuki has not yet been made official, but given the break down of the Habs roster it seems almost certain that both of these young rookie forwards have made it.
