The reaction from fans when it comes to young players demanding trades is usually extremely negative towards the player, especially in cases like this one where the demand comes before the player has even reached the National Hockey League level, however you will find yourself hard pressed to blame this young man for his decision.

According to a report from Habs insider Marco Normandin, Montreal Canadiens prospect William Bitten has refused to report to his team in the Ontario Hockey League and has issued a very public trade demand. Bitten is currently a member of the Flint Firebirds, a team so rife with controversy that their owner was awarded a five year ban from the league last season, that's right the owner of the team was banned from the league.

Just last year the Flint Firebirds' players staged a protest when they objected to the firing of their head coach, resulting in the entire team briefly walking out, and it sounds like Bitten has had enough and wants a chance to showcase his skills on a real team.

Bitten put up 30 goals and 35 assists in 67 games last season, and with him entering a critical year in his development it's obvious the Firebirds are not the place he wants to be. To his credit Bitten openly admitted that he was sad more players on the Firebirds couldn't afford to take his stance, it's clear he not only thinks he should not play there, but that no hockey player deserves that fate.

We aren't show where this demand will go, or how it will impact his relationship with the Canadiens if at all, but one thing is certain, this young man is taking a stand and there won't be many standing against him.
