It could not have come at a worse time.

The Montreal Canadiens have just received some rather bad news.

According to multiple reports it now appears as though 20 year old forward Joel Teasdale has suffered a catastrophic injury, and it has come at the worst time imaginable both for the young player and for the organization itself. Teasdale has reportedly suffered a double ligament tear in his knee, tearing both the MCL and ACL, each of which could have kept it out for the entire season on it's own. As things stand the Canadiens have ruled the young forward out for a minimum of 7 months of action as a result of this injury, and this comes as Teasdale was set to embark on the most important season of his life.

After 4 consecutive seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League the expectation was that Teasdale would be spending significant time with the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League and could have potentially even been a surprise piece for that team this season. The Rocket have never made the playoffs since moving and taking on their current moniker, and there was some hope that Teasdale could potentially be one of the weapons to push them over the edge .

Now you may be thinking that is a lot of praise to heap onto a 20 year old that has not even broken into the American Hockey League yet, but Teasdale is coming off a rather impressive run of form. Following a trade to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies this past season Teasdale exploded in terms of his development, recording a whopping 42 points over just 29 regular season games, and he continued to impress in the playoffs. During the Memorial Cup Tournament the young forward would record 14 goals and 20 assists in just 20 games, truly putting himself into the conversation as one of Mpontreal's top 10 prospects.

This was meant to be the year where Teasdale would transition his game to the professional level, and although it may still be it will also come off the heels of a major setback. I for one hope the kid can persevere through of all of this and make it back to where he was last season, but there's no denying that this is a major injury that could seriously impact his career.
