Habs release statement regarding the participation of Max Domi.

One of the bigger stories leading up to the National Hockey League's proposed return to play has been the health concerns for players that find themselves particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, the deadly virus that has swept the globe. Perhaps the most notable example of this has been Montreal Canadiens forward Max Domi, a popular figure in many cities across the league due to his own career, work in the community, and of course family legacy. 

Domi has struggled all his life with Type 1 diabetes and has been very successful but the current predicament he is facing is one unlike any other and it has left questions about whether or not the Habs forward will be able to participate in the Stanley Cup Playoffs amid this pandemic. According to Health Canada COVID-19 can cause more severe symptoms in those with Type 1 Diabetes which means risk of exposure for Domi could potentially be very serious or even deadly, so there is also a question of whether or not Domi would be medically cleared to participate. 

On Sunday the Habs released an official statement regarding this very issue but unfortunately it has only created more confusion and doubt about whether or not Domi will participate. The statement, one that came directly from Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, effectively said that the team is going to take a wait and see approach over the next several days and determine at that point whether or not Domi will play. According to Bergevin the team has agreed with Domi to take the next 7 to 10 days in order to decide if he will join his teammates at training camp, presumably in an effort to evaluate how safe of a bubble they can maintain at Bell Sports Complex in Brossard where the team practices. 

The statement reads as though this will be a decision made by the Habs and Domi which could mean that the young forward has been medically cleared to participate, although that does not remove the additional risks he would face by participating. We have already seen some NHL players opt out over the last few days, with some making the decision over medical concerns, and there would be no shame if Domi were forced to go down that path as well.
