Taylor Hall wanted to clarify the comments he previously made about the New Jersey Devils fanbase. You see, he didn’t mean anything bad by it.

“The media can make whatever they want out of it,” the star forward told the assembled media, including TSN, on Tuesday before the Devils’ game against the Winnipeg Jets.

“(I) was just trying to say that getting booed sucks,” he continued. “Any time you’re playing on home ice, you always want to play well in front of your fans, and that was basically about it.”

Following an overtime loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning last Wednesday, Hall said , “We’re kind of battling our own fans right now. We were 1-for-3 on the power play and we are getting booed. It’s a tie game, we are getting booed.”

He even went on to make a ‘listen’ gesture with his right hand to his right ear after scoring a third-period goal in a 4-3 shootout loss against the Philadelphia Flyers on Friday.

However, Hall maintains that he loves the fanbase in New Jersey. Which is a good sign for the upcoming negotiations for a contract extension. On Insider Trading on TSN, Darren Dreger revealed that Hall’s agent is set on meeting with Ray Shero on Thursday to start talking about an extension.

“There hasn’t really been official progress but constant dialogue and communication between Devils GM Ray Shero and Hall’s agent Darren Ferris; they will meet again this Thursday in Calgary. To this point they haven’t discussed the parameters – term and money – of what a deal might look like to keep Hall out of unrestricted free agency. I’m sure that Ferris would prefer Hall wait until the end of the year, go through the courting process and then see what the field might look like on July 1. But at the end of the day, that decision will be made by Hall.”

Trade chatter has heated up since the start of the season seeing that no progress had been made between both parties. The rumours may kick off again after the meeting if no development gets made then.

Later on Tuesday, Bob McKenzie took part in The Quiz and revealed that he thinks there is a 25% chance that Hall finishes the season with the Devils.

To be continued…
