Hamilton heaps praise on Bergeron, but angers Bruins fans with pre-Game 1 comments

The puck drops on the Eastern Conference Final tonight when the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes hit the ice at Boston’s TD Garden for Game 1.

With nearly a week to scout the Bruins though, the Hurricanes seem to be zeroing in on one Bruins player in particular and for good reason. Patrice Bergeron might be the most complete player in the NHL, equally adept in the offensive or defensive zone. He’ll command much of the Hurricanes’ attention and, in particular, he’ll command the attention of former teammate Dougie Hamilton.

Hamilton was effusive in his praise for Bergeron today, but it was Hamilton’s words about his time with the Bruins that had Bruins fans a bit miffed.

As a Bruins fan, we were over the moon when they drafted him and thrilled to have him on the team...and then POOF. Whatever the story was...it was weird. Don Sweeney is one of the best evaluators of young talent. Why would they trade a kid as talented as Dougie?

As far as his exit from Boston is concerned, I would bet money that someone got his feelings hurt by Claude Julien when he was called out for defensive lapses. Instead of accepting harsh criticism and growing up, he told management he wouldn’t sign the RFA deal and wanted out.
