The Will Butcher Sweepstakes are in full swing. Just like last offseason with former Nashville Predators draft pick Jimmy Vesey, NHL teams are clamouring to sign Colorado Avalanche draft pick Will Butcher now that he’s officially on the market as an unrestricted free-agent.

The smooth skating defenseman has no shortage of interested parties and met with representatives from the Buffalo Sabres, Vegas Golden Knights, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins and New Jersey Devils this week in an effort to help make a decision on his future. Now, a photo has surfaced courtesy of Denver Post hockey writer Mike Chambers that shows the 22-year-old Butcher rocking some Sabres gear.

Check it out:

What can we read into this? Is it a sign that Butcher is about to join the Sabres? I can’t imagine an NHL player using gear with another team’s logo on it, so maybe there’s something to this?

In any case, the Sabres could certainly use Butcher on their blue line. After a dismal season in 2016-17, the Sabres, led by new GM Jason Botterril, have completely revamped their defense by adding Nathan Beaulieu and Marco Scandella in separate deals. Butcher would make another fine addition.
