Hawks allowed to place Marian Hossa on long-term injured reserve

The Chicago Blackhawks can now move forward with their plans, thanks to imminent room on the cap space. 

The NHL has informed the Hawks they’re allowed to place Marian Hossa on long-term injured reserve this season, according to The Athelic. The NHL had hired an independent physician to verify Hossa’s progressive skin disorder.

With the decision finalized by the League, the Hawks are expected to place Hossa on long-term injured reserve on the first day of the season. With a bigger cap space available, the team can now go up to $75.650 million after putting Michal Rozsival on long-term injured reserve – and place Hossa on long-term injured reserve. 

Hence, the Blackhawks will be able to utilize Hossa’s $5.275 cap hit throughout the season.

Expect them to sign veteran Cody Franson to a deal, and do more to build a great Cup contender this season.
