Hawks already worried by what Nylander has to offer!

When the Chicago Blackhawks traded traded promising defenceman Henri Jokiharju to Buffalo on Tuesday for Alexander Nylander, who hasn’t quite lived up to expectations since he was selected by the Sabres with the eighth overall pick in the 2016 draft, fans were dumbfounded.

They might however been a bit hopeful that a change of scenery would push Nylander to become the player everyone expected him to be.

However, so far, the results remain disappointing.

On Friday, Hawks insider Ben Pope of The Sun Times attended a training session and scrimmage between Blackhawks players and quickly noted that he was concerned with what he was seeing from Nylander on the ice.

Or what he was not seeing from him…

“I’m concerned what I’m (not) seeing from Nylander.

He looks slow, a step behind the play, on defense. And on offense, he’s not noticeable without the puck and trying to get too fancy when he does have it.”

That does not sound very promising.

Nylander had two goals and two assists in 12 games with Buffalo last season. He also had 12 goals and 19 assists in 49 games with Rochester of the American Hockey League.

Let’s hope he is just adjusting to Chicago and will get better before the start of the 2019-20 season.
