Hawks’ Bowman has traded 6 first-round picks!

Even if you get selected in the first round by the Chicago Blackhawks, there appears to be no guarantee that you will stay with the team. 

The proof is in the pudding: general manager Stan Bowman has traded all of his first-round picks from 2011 to 2017. 

Forwards Phillip Danault (2011), Mark McNeill (2011), Teuvo Teravainen (2012), Ryan Hartman (2013) and Nick Schmaltz (2014) as well as defenseman Henri Jokiharju (2017) have all been moved in the past recent years. The Hawks did not hold a first round picks both in 2015 and 2016. 

Jokiharju is the latest to be moved on Tuesday, traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Alexander Nylander. We will have to wait and see what will happen to the other first-round picks in the franchise as Adam Boqvist (2018), Nicolas Beaudin (2018) and Kirby Dach (2019) could be the next to get the boot…

February 26, 2016: The Blackhawks trade Phillip Danault and a second-round pick for the Montreal Canadiens in return for forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann.

February 28, 2017: The Blackhawks trade Mark McNeill and a fourth-round fourth-round pick for defenseman Johnny Oduya to the Dallas Stars.

February 26, 2018: The Blackhawks send Ryan Hartman and a fifth-round pick to the Nashville Predators in return for forward Victor Ejdsell, a first round pick and a fourth round pick. 

November 25, 2018: Blackhawks trade Nick Schmaltz to the Arizona Coyotes against forwards Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini.
