It seems like the Chicago Blackhawks may be living in denial…

The Hawks are kicking off the 2019-20 season in Prague against the Philadelphia Flyers, however, someone on the team made a mistake on the active roster that got even the player involved quite confused.

Defenseman Calvin de Haan, who underwent shoulder surgery in late May, shortly after the Carolina Hurricanes’ season ended with a loss in the Eastern Conference finals and about a month before the Hawks acquired him and Aleksi Saarela for Gustav Forsling and Anton Forsberg, noticed on Wednesday morning that he was listed as part of the active roster for Chicago.

The problem is: he isn’t ready to get back to action.

De Haan revealed to team insider Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun Times that he won’t be playing on Friday. While he didn’t set his statement in stone, he did mention that he was “confused to hear he was one of six defensemen listed on the active roster.”

The 27-year-old notched one goal and 14 points in 74 games with the Hurricanes last campaign and is expected to slot into a top-four role with the Blackhawks in 2019-20.

While the Hawks and head coach Jeremy Colliton can’t wait to have de Haan be part of the lineup, it seems like the team still needs to wait for him to feel 100% to get him on the roster and ready to go!
