Henrik Lundqvist reveals he plans to return to the Rangers.

A return to New York in the cards.

The New York Rangers made an incredibly difficult decision in the offseason when they moved forward with the buyout of long time goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. The move not only bought out Lundqvist's contract but more importantly it ended his tenure with the team, a moment that was very emotional for the fans and no doubt for Lundqvist himself.

For those who are sad that they will see Lundqvist likely end his career in the National Hockey League somewhere other than New York, a thought that would have been akin to blasphemy even just a few short years ago, the good news is it sounds like there is a reunion that will be in the works very shortly. Lundqvist recently spoke to the Swedish press about his departure from the Rangers and although he did admit it was an emotional time for him, it sounds like he is pretty positive about what the future will hold for both him and the Rangers.

"here have been tears and many conversations with the family. Then this was Rangers' decision. I accept that. But my love for the sport makes me want to continue playing and no one can blame me for that. I feel very straightforward in this situation and I only feel positive energy from the fans in New York," said Lundqvist as per Expressen.

So what about his future with the Rangers? Well it sounds like both Lundqvist and the Rangers have already worked out some kind of agreement regarding his post playing career where he would return to the organization is some form of a leadership role.

"Then I do not know if the role will be small or if there will be something more. It is further ahead. It's time again. It is not here and now - but I feel that I will somehow be "connected" to Rangers forever after so many years and all the people I got to know in the club, from owners and down," said the Swedish netminder.

I have no doubt that Lundqvist will give it his all as a member of the Washington Capitals, but even by his own admission it sounds like he will never consider himself anything other than a Ranger.

"This is a chapter, when I go and test this. But I'll be a part of Rangers for the rest of my life. In one way or another. Both I and they have been clear about that. That's how it will be."
