Henrik Zetterberg shockingly hints at a possible retirement.

Yesterday we reported on how Henrik Zetterberg made a big admission in the hopes of bettering himself this season, but now the Red Wings captain has made another even more shocking reveal.

In a recent interview Zetterberg talked openly about how playing high energy hockey for a full season had caused him to run out of gas in the past few years, and while he didn't indicate any plans to retire prior to or even during this season, it was clear that he has already admitted to himself he's near the end.

From the Detroit Free Press:

Zetterberg realizes his playing career is drawing to a close.

“You have to be realistic, I’m getting up there,” Zetterberg said. “Looking back through my career, I don’t think I ever I thought I’d be the oldest guy, but it’s part of life.”

It doesn't sound like it's his own physical decline that is weighing on him the most however, Zetterberg was part of a team who's legacy was being competitive year in and year out, and now most of those faces are gone, and in many ways he is the last one left.

“It’s harder and harder to see the team that’s been here for such a long time leave – that’s the tough part,” Zetterberg said. “You’ve been through so much stuff with them and now they’re not here. But I guess it’s part of hockey and part of sports and you just have to get younger.”

Everyone wants to get younger, but there will be a great many hockey fans who will be very sad when Zetterberg does hang up his skates, and they won't be exclusive to the city of Detroit either.
