All the way back in March of 2016 we brought you a story in which a clearly disturbed New Jersey Devils fan committed one of the most senseless acts of violence to strike the hockey world in a long time, and today justice has been served.

The Associated Press is now reporting that 42-year-old Steven Simminger has been found guilty of murdering 24-year-old Colin McGovern in brutal fashion, stabbing him to death merely over his love of a different hockey team.

As was reported back in 2016, an argument kicked off between the two men over the fact that Simminger was wearing a New Jersey Devils hat, prompting McGovern to chirp Simminger about his team. McGovern who was a Flyers' fan likely had no idea that behavior that occurs between fans all the time would lead to the end of his life.

Simminger would go on to stab the poor young man 10 different times simply due to the fact that McGovern's team loyalty did not align with his own, actions that we hope every hockey fan in the world can condemn regardless of who they cheer for. It's important to note that this is not a representation of Devils' fans as a whole and in fact we are sure Devil fans would join us in condemning these heinous acts from Simminger.

While everyone deserves a second chance, we hope Simminger will be met with the full force of the law when he is sentenced for these crimes in January of 2018. If he spends the rest of his wretched life rotting in a cell we certainly won't be shedding any tears on his behalf.
