Former National Hockey League star and Stanley Cup champion Danny Grant has died on Monday night.

He was just 73 years old.

Grant made his NHL debut as a left winger playing just one game with the Montreal Canadiens in 1965-66. Many will say that despite playing in just 22 regular season games, he did help the Habs win the Stanley Cup in 1968, playing in 10 playoff games.

He was then traded to the Minnesota North Stars and ending up winning the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year in the 1968-69 season.

His best scoring season came in the 1974-75 season with the Detroit Red Wings, when he scored 50 goals. Unfortunately, his career was cut short by injury and had to retire. He accumulated a total of 536 points over his 13-year career in the NHL.

Grant later coached at the University of New Brunswick and briefly with the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

He also served as an assistant coach at St. Thomas University and was inducted into the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.

We send our condolences to Danny’s family and friends from everyone at Hockey Feed.
