Hoffman lands back on the trade market!

Mike Hoffman should be used to it by now. And for the next four days, the Florida Panthers forward will have to sit and wait to see if he is on the move again.

According to Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia, the Panthers are listening to offers Hoffman, citing two sources informing him that the veteran forward could be dealt for the third time in nine months after moving from the Ottawa Senators to the San Jose Sharks to the Panthers last June.

Many people will wonder what has he done this time? As we all know, he was moved from the Senators after an ugly feud with former captain Erik Karlsson. The dressing room chemistry was off and the Senators wanted to clear the negativity and moved Hoffman.

However this time, it’s not his fault. Garrioch believes the Panthers may be looking to clear cap space to pursue unrestricted free agents this summer. The Panthers have been linked to both Artemi Panarin and Sergei Bobrovsky in recent weeks. The rumour has intensified since Florida pulled the trade for Derick Brassard and Riley Sheahan from the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier this month.

Hoffman is signed through next season at a $5.19 million cap hit and has a 10-team no-trade list. He has managed to tally 26 goals and 49 points in 58 games this season and is on pace to top his career-highs in both categories.

The 27-year-old forward was first traded by the Senators to the Sharks last June along with Cody Donaghey and a 2020 fifth-round pick for Mikkel Boedker, Julius Bergman and a 2020 sixth-round pick. On the same day, the Sharks flipped Hoffman, along with their seventh-round pick, to the Panthers for a 2019 second-round pick and fourth- and fifth-round picks in 2018.

We don’t know what he could fetch the Panthers this time, however if they are looking to shed salary for a much bigger move in the summer, we might see Hoffman pack his bags once again.
