We knew from the start of the second-round series between the Vegas Golden Knights and Vancouver Canucks that it wouldn’t take much for tempers to flare, especially when it came to enforcer Ryan Reaves and pest Antoine Roussel.

Throughout the series, Reaves and Roussel went at each other without mercy on the ice: the Vegas enforcer taunted the Vancouver pest with chicken noises from the bench. Roussel also tried to antagonize his opponent and got a 10-minute misconduct for trying to fight Reaves in Game 2.

The Golden Knights won Game 7 and moved on to the Western Conference finals, and on Tuesday night, Roussel spoke with TVA Sports to talk about the Canucks’ postseason and heartbreaking elimination. He also revealed that he was glad Reaves wasn’t on the ice for the traditional handshake line after the contest. Reaves was ejected from Game 7 for an illegal check to the head of Tyler Motte.

Roussel said that he would have had something to say to Reaves if he had been standing victorious in line, which could have started a fight despite the series being over.

“I was glad I didn’t have to shake his hand at the end of the series because he was ejected from the game. However, I would have loved to shake his hand if we had been the ones moving forward, I would have said something to him that would have made him think all fall long until next season,” he said in French.

Fans on social media were hoping Reaves would be allowed back on the ice to see him shake hands with the Canucks, though the call was probably the right one to keep him in the dressing room.

If he had been out and about, cheering and running his mouth, as he does best, there might have been a fight between Reaves and Roussel, and one we wouldn’t forget.
