The NHL should let the teams shoot for three point - and reward regulation victories with an extra point. That's the latest publication from Pierre Lebrun on ESPN's website. Lebrun is suggesting a new point system for the NHL. Here goes :

3 points for a regulalation win. 2 points for an overtime win. 1 point for an overtime loss. 0 point for a regulation loss.

How could such a system affect the NHL? How different would have looked last year playoff?

According to this demonstration, there would have been only one change made. The Boston Bruins would have bumped out the Detroit Red Wings for the last playoff spot available in the eastern conference!

What do you think of this system? Is it worth a try?
