One of the hottest trade rumors of the summer is back and in full effect.

Despite the fact that general manager Joe Sakic did his best to squash the rumors earlier this summer when he stated his intention to re-sign extremely talented defenseman Tyson Barrie, it now sounds like the two sides are very, very, far apart on a new deal.

According to a report from Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, the Avalanche have offered Barrie a two-year deal at $4 million in the first season and $4.25 in the second, but that's not going to get it done. Barrie on the other hand is asking for a full $2 million more in the first year and is only willing to commit to that one year at $6 million. Add to that his reportedly terrible relationship with head coach Patrick Roy, and you've got all the ingredients for a break up.

There's no doubt that there are a large number of NHL teams that would be willing to sign Barrie to a long term deal, and the Avalanche may be in a position where trading his rights may put them in the best position to maximize a return on his value.
