Huge rumor involving James Neal and the Vegas Golden Knights!
Keystone Press Agency

We reported yesterday that the Vegas Golden Knights were trying to trade 27-year-old defenseman Luca Sbisa in hopes of making the team better on the long run. Well, it looks like the 27-year-old is not the only player at risk of being dealt.

According to Golden Knights beat writer Steve Carp, general manager George McPhee could be trying to move two veterans at next year's trade deadline. Here is what he said in an interview with Sportsnet's Luke Fox, last week:

"GM George McPhee will likely shop David Perron and James Neal at the deadline, hoping for second-round picks in return but probably settling for thirds."

Second or third-round picks? Really? That doesn't look like much, especially because many experts consider Neal as the team's first captain because of his leadership and experience. He was an important pick during this year's expansion draft, and it would seem odd to already see him go.

He also had a pretty steady production over the last few seasons: he scored more than 20 goals in nine of his 10 NHL seasons with the Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins and Nashville Predators. He recorded 41 points in 70 games last year, and added nine more in 22 playoff games.

He has one year left to the six-year, $30 million contract he signed in Pittsburgh back in 2012. He will be a free agent on July 1, 2018.
