The Boston Bruins have finally provided an official update on the status of star forward Patrice Bergeron, and I am happy to report that the news is very good for the Bruins.

According to a report from Boston Bruins insider Joe Haggerty of NBC Sports, head coach Bruce Cassidy has informed him that Bergeron is now expected to participate in a preseason game. This continues a positive trend for Bergeron over the last several weeks, one that began with him skating prior to his teammates during Bruins practices, and one that continued earlier in the week when he shed his non-contact jersey for the first time. Although Cassidy would not officially announce when Bergeron could be expected to make his preseason debut, Haggerty reports that the most likely scenario would be Bergeron participating in the preseason finale for the Bruins on Saturday, a game in which they will face off against Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Perhaps the most important takeaway from today's update however is the fact that it appears as though Bergeron has finally recovered from his lingering groin issue. The Bruins superstar has struggled considerably with injuries over the last few seasons and for him to get fully healthy, healthy enough to play in a meaningless exhibition game no less, prior to the start of the regular season will prove to be a huge boon for the Bruins.

Here's to hoping we get to see Bergeron healthy for all 82 games this time around.
