It’s been just over two years since the horrific bus crash that claimed the lives of 16 members of the AJHL’s Humboldt Broncos. The hockey world has continued to mourn the loss of these individuals, but lost amongst the grief are the 13 survivors. Life has not been easy for many of the survivors, take captain Graysen Cameron who suffered a debilitating back injury and feared he may never play hockey again. Well… don’t look now but Cameron announced just this morning that he’ll be playing in the NCAA for Northland College in 2020-21.

Check it out:

Incredible.

This kid is nothing if not goal oriented. You may recall that people called him crazy when he attempted to work his way back into the Broncos’ lineup after taking a season off to rehabilitate his back and help coach his former midget team in Red Deer, Alberta. So what did he do? He made the team during training camp and earned the right to wear the “C” as captain in 2019-20.

“My only focus is getting to Humboldt and being able to perform there,” Cameron said prior to making the team during training camp. “I don’t want to show up and be average, I want to make a name for myself in the league, and do whatever it takes to try and get a championship there.”

He did that and more, earning himself a spot with Northland next season where he’ll compete in the NCAA’s Division 3 level.

“His dedication, work ethic and leadership is above anything you could ever ask for,” the Broncos official Twitter account tweeted. ” We are truly honoured to call Graysen a Bronco, and we always will!”
