The Carolina Hurricanes have had a strong start to the 2019-20 season and despite losing 5-2 at the hands of the San Jose Sharks on Wednesday night, their focus was elsewhere.

The team finally explained on Friday that their beloved broadcaster Mike Maniscalco was taken to the emergency room in San Jose ahead of that contest after experiencing severe pain in his abdomen. His wife Kristen was flown in as he was transferred to Santa Clara where he was given care and treatments. The doctors have found a large mass in his stomach.

On Friday morning, Maniscalco was sent back to Raleigh where he will undergo surgery.

The entire team supports Maniscalco and wish him the best in his recovery. Forward Jordan Martinook took the team to tweet some encouraging words to Mike and sent a message from the Hurricanes that they will always be there to help him.

Our thoughts go out to Mike Maniscalco and his family during this difficult time.
